Florida State, South Carolina, Wake Forest, Arkansas and Virginia Tech are the five schools that currently stand out to tight end Neil Basford (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny). The Seminoles look to be the team to beat at this time for the 6-foot-6, 235-pounder.

Basford showed off his athleticism at the Jacksonville Under Armour combine in March, where he posted a 36.5-inch vertical.

ESPN Evaluation

Basford is a tight end prospect with good size. He carries solid bulk now and has the frame to keep packing on more good size when he gets into a college weight program. It certainly does not seem out of the realm of possibility that this kid could develop into an offensive tackle. Likely though he will settle in at tight end in college. He presents a nice target in the short-to-intermediate passing game. He displays adequate speed, but runs solid routes and displays a good feel for finding the soft spot in zone. He catches the ball well though he can seem to catch it into his frame. He is not a kid that will make many defenders miss, but he runs hard with the ball and will not just go down. He will try and avoid or at least lower his shoulder and get what he can. He is a solid in-line blocker who displays good upside in this phase. He can deliver a good initial pop and displays the ability to get good hand placement. Flashes the ability to generate some power from his hips and create movement off the ball in the run game. He needs to be sure to consistently bring his hips, derive power from them, and move his feet. Displays some tenaciousness as a blocker. Basford is kid who is fairly well rounded at the tight end position. You likely are getting what you see as far as receiving skills, but with his size he presents some good upside as a blocker.
